Not Enough, It Doesn’t Matter, Who Cares

Not enough, it doesn’t matter, who cares. Demeaning phrases hiss around inside my mind begging me to play it small. Coaxing me to stay isolated in a box that’s safe because I’m not important enough to make an impact. Your actions cause no ripple – everyone else is making waves vast enough to swallow countries of sin and what have you done?

“STOP,” I say to myself as I walk back from the ledge of anxious thoughts. I look in the mirror and encourage myself as David did.

Holy Spirit whispers promises over my life and my Kingdom sight comes back into focus.

Hear Me when I say it does not matter what your neighbor is doing, what have I called you to do? God’s voice echoes in my core, sounding like the absolute best and holiest version of myself.

im·pact /verb/ have a strong effect on someone or something

On someone or something - even if you only impact one person, your service has had a strong effect on that one person to make a difference in their life.

It’s so easy to get caught up in all our technological advances and forget a person’s only experience with Jesus could be our interaction with them. The kindness we show by holding a door for a mom whose kids are going in five different directions or the $10 bill we offer a woman who barely utters “thanks.”

Most of us won’t serve thousands of people on a stage or with a platform. We’ll feel unappreciated at times, at the brink of weariness in our well-doing. Every time you feed the positive version of yourself, God sees even if no one ever notices. Put the blinders on and run the race God has set before you. Jesus didn’t sacrifice His life to save us only for us to doubt what He’s said about us and what He’s called us to do.

My dad recently told me how proud he is of something I’m doing that makes me nervous and doubt myself. No matter how old I get, those words pierce my heart with joy. I think about God saying the same thing to me – how proud He is of my obedience when it’s inconvenient and it stretches me, how pleased He is when I put my full faith and trust in Him.

Lord,

Help us say yes to Your will for our lives, especially when we’re afraid and doubtful. Let the Holy Spirit fill us up with Your promises and remind us what You’ve spoken over us. Help us to focus on our own path and not the path of others around us. You’ve given each of us special gifts and talents, let us use them to impact Your Kingdom no matter how small we think they are.

Let your light shine – the world, your neighborhood and your family need your impact!
