Using Your Story For Your Purpose

Stories have long been the way God has communicated Truth to us. The Bible is full of narratives that not only share our history but bring us wisdom for our lives every day.

The Old Testament is written mostly in narrative form.

Jesus used parables to teach in the Gospels.

The Bible itself was handed down in oral tradition long before it ever became the book we have today.

It’s clear that God loves stories, and he’s written the best ones—including yours.

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. —Psalm 139:13-16

He knew your life before you ever began living it, and He made your experiences set you apart in such a way that there is no such thing as competition. But that starts with you owning that story.

Here are a few stories you can share that will help live the story He’s still writing through you and your business.

[Subtitle] Your Why

Simon Sinek is famous for saying, “People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it.” The reason you started your business and keep pursuing your business is personal to you, and that makes it the perfect thing to share so people can get to know you.

[Subtitle] Your Results

We often get used to seeing certain things happen in our businesses, for ourselves or for our clients and customers. The transformations and shifts become commonplace that we forget to celebrate, and we forget to share. That’s exactly what needs to happen and a story that others would love to hear.

[Subtitle] Your Failures

If you haven’t noticed, transparency is the new expectation for businesses today—at least businesses that want to thrive long-term. Humans like to buy or work with other humans. Showing your not so pretty parts and failures through story adds a layer of authenticity that captures hearts and minds deeply.

[Subtitle] Your Behind the Scenes

Every person out there has a unique way of doing their work, being inspired, or living their life. You are no exception. It’s likely that your children running around you while you work, that coffee shop where you do your best writing, or the journal in which all your dreams start to materialize would be interesting to your audience because it shows another side of you. Don’t be afraid to share that too.

You are created by God and for his unique call on your life that he’s been preparing you for since the beginning. When you embrace your differences and your stories, you can stand out from the crowd and start making the difference that only you can.
