A Creativity Challenge

The She Leads Daily community has been tackling the theme “Image” for the last few weeks, and today I want to challenge us to look at image in a creative way. I want us to take a step beyond thinking about images and move into making them and admiring them.

Images are defined as reproductions or expressions of the form or likeness of a person or object. The image itself exists, but something or someone had to make that image. There was a process in making something new that expresses something. That painting on the wall was touched directly by a person or a machine handling ink or paint. Words on a page were pressed down by keyboards or a pen. Music is also expressive and creates mental images in the listener’s mind. All mediums express or reflect something… and we can express it and we can admire it. Those are the two key parts of this creativity challenge.

Express your creativity

Creativity comes in all shapes, sizes, and mediums. The format does not matter, but I encourage you to try any of the following options:

  • Draw a picture

  • Play an instrument

  • Write a poem

  • Sing a song

  • Write a song

  • Paint

  • Make something with clay

  • Make a craft or do a DIY project

Admire creativity

Again, creative projects are expressions and images that someone made. It’s important to recognize the work someone put into their work… but also be sure to admire what you make, too! Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Go to art museums (and bring a friend!)

  • Listen to music

  • Listen to music by an artist you don’t normally listen to

  • Share your creative project with someone else

  • Encourage someone else to make something too

This challenge is not a competition. It’s meant for us to have fun learning and growing and trying something new. God created the world and us, so it certainly is okay for us to make things too.

What will you make?
