In the Now
The tendency to think beyond the now can paint a different picture — causing anxieties and limiting us from experiencing peace, happiness and blessings.
In fact, I am a living testimony to thinking beyond the now. One year ago, I was struggling within my identity. I did not know what I was meant for, nor did I know the purpose God had for me. I felt as if I was going through life with no direction or plan. I saw other people being given everything I had wanted and I questioned where God was or if He truly understood the desires of my heart. I could not grasp that me, who tried to be so strong and faithful to God, was struggling at my purpose in life.
But then, I had an awakening.
Matthew 6:25-27 (ESV) reminded me, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”
That is when it hit me.
Why am I worried about tomorrow? Or even my future? I am of great value and He takes care of all things — how could I ever think He wouldn’t indeed take care of me?
That verse was able to pull at my heart strings and convict me of so much. It was then that I had realized that God works on His timing, not mine. That is why it is important to be rooted in the now.
When we are rooted in the now, we are not allowing our worries and fears to overcome us. Yes, we are human and sometimes, things happen and our minds start to wonder; however, when our wondering minds seem to make a home within us, that is when we must pray to God for deliverance of such thoughts.
Sweet sister, God does not what you to worry about the future or even tomorrow. He wants you to focus on the now and what needs to be done today. When we focus too much time on the future or even in the days ahead, we take away from God’s purposes and plans He has for us to complete for the day. That can be: blessing someone, speaking to us with a guided answer that we have been longing for, blessing us and the list goes on-and-on. But when we’re focusing on the things ahead, we can miss the wonderful daily things that God is trying to show and/or give us.
Sister, I challenge you to become more present in the now and only the now. Ask God to guide you. He is faithful and will help you.
Heavenly Father,
I ask for deliverance from any unwanted thoughts that allow me to stray away from remaining rooted in the now. Help me. Guide me. I want to do Your work each and every day. I know that worrying about the future will hinder me from doing my daily purposes on what You have called me to do. I pray for strength and a sound mind. I know that I can do all things through You, Father, and I thank you that you have a purpose and a plan for me. I know that through you, I have a future.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
