Your Will vs Free Will
Free will — the gift that God created and gave to us.
The concept of God allowing us to have a choice is beautiful. He did not want us to be robotic in nature. In fact, He wanted us to be the opposite of just that. Because He created us not only for a purpose but to build a relationship with Him, He knew that giving us free will allows us the space to choose Him. If we were forced to choose Him, it would not be genuine.
Understanding the essence of why we have free will is important because it allows us to handle the day-to-day choices we face in life. Everyday, we are constantly faced with temptation - by friends, family, television, social media, and more. Life is trying; life is not easy. However, when we focus our attention on God, that is when even the hardest of things become bearable.
Our world has increasingly become filled with hatred, judgements, corruption and evilness. Yes, these things were always around, but they seem to be much more prominent than they were before. Why?
More and more people are straying away from God and the Truth. More and more people are choosing free will — to fulfill their purposes and not God’s purposes.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13, New International Version)
Sweet sister, this world may tell you to choose things that are not of God — this world may tell you that following your will is better than following His will. However, let me tell you — God is Truth and He is the only Truth.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” (John 16:13, English Standard Version)
Sister, I challenge you to be rooted in your faith. Be rooted in your faith in the midst of temptation. Be rooted in your faith when society tells you to go against God and His Truth. Be rooted in your faith when friends and family discourage you. Be rooted in your faith no matter what trials come to test you. Yes, God gave us free will, but the truth is that self-will never sets us free. It is only His will that sets us free.
Heavenly Father, I pray not only today but everyday that my cup will be filled. I pray that I will be a light to those who are in need of knowing You and Your goodness. Use me as an example to show what it means to be rooted in faith. I choose to follow Your will for my life because I trust You and I know that You know what is best for me, Father. I choose You today and everyday. Thank you for blessing me, leading me out of temptation, and strengthening me every step of the way. Thank you for guiding me on the path of righteousness. Thank you for giving me free will, Father, so I can choose you.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
